About residential electric baseboard heaters

There are some advantages to be had with residential electric baseboard heaters that make them well worth considering. There are also, naturally, some disadvantages to think about.

On the plus side, electric baseboard heaters are compact and unobtrusive - they do not take up great big areas of wall space, and they are not particularly ugly (like many heating systems).

Baseboard radiant heating systems like these deliver a radiated heat - this is generally agreed to be the most pleasant form of heat (not drying the air like blown air heaters do).

The great thing about electric residential heating is that it is simple to install. You still want a professional to do the job, but it only really needs electricity wires - no boiler needs to be fitted and no water carrying pipes need to be laid.

The down side of most electrically operated systems is that they are not the cheapest option so far as long term running costs are concerned. Hot water baseboard heaters, for example, tend to cost significantly less to run. But given the extra initial outlay, and the inconvenience of such systems, there are certainly times when electric baseboard radiators are the right choice. Smaller houses or apartments might find that over the lifetime of the units, the cost is really negligible.
