The basic setup of baseboard radiant heating systems

There are lot of good things we can write about baseboard radiant heating systems. They are clean - good for asthmatics who find their condition aggravated by blown air, for example. They are cheap - you can run hot water systems with almost any fuel and can choose the most cost-effective and convenient for your personal situation.

There are two types of baseboard radiator systems available: baseboard heat hot water or electric baseboard heaters.

Electric baseboard heat is by far the most convenient for some people. In fact some people who live in apartments may have no choice.

This is because baseboard hot water heating systems need some more (hidden) equipment that has to be located somewhere else on the property or within the home - electrically powered systems do not need anything but a cable to the power supply. Clearly the additional equipment is going to present a problem in some apartments.

Hot water baseboard heat needs the baseboard units, just like electricity versions, but also needs a delivery network of water-carrying pipes. It also needs a boiler and a pump.

Why bother with baseboard heating hot water systems when you can install electricity? It is because they are much more efficient than their electrical cousins. You can choose what kind of boiler you run - gas, coal, wood, oil - so you can get the best value and ease of delivery. They take more effort to install, and cost more initially, but they are probably worth it in the long run.
