There are plenty of good reasons to move over to swimming pool solar heating - it saves money, uses a renewable fuel source, and it opens the pool up for a much longer season...
Once the decision to go solar is made however, there are other things to think about. One of the key decisions about solar pool heating is where to put the solar panels.
If we are honest, these rather large black units are not what most of us would choose as garden decoration. If you are heading for a one hundred percent solar pool solution then you need panels that equal the surface area of your pool - this can mean quite a lot of panelling.
Of course there is still benefit in choosing solar swimming pool heaters that are not one hundred percent. A lot of the time they will do the job just fine, and they can be supplemented by other heat sources. It can be a good compromise, and less ugly!
But when it comes to placing them, one of the best solutions is to keep them on the ground. Though it is tempting to raise them up onto the roof and out of sight, this has to be done very carefully. These are weighty items and they grow and shrink with the seasons and the time of day. All this is not good for roofs, so my advice would be to keep them on the ground, if you have the space.
