There are plenty of options in home heating, from electrically powered systems through to oil and gas. For the combination of convenience, power and efficiency many people are looking at the heating value of propane.
In fact the range of propane stoves for home heating purposes is very impressive. Basically almost anything that runs natural gas can be converted to propane with a simple kit. This means there is lots of choice and the efficiency gains that have been made by natural gas heating manufacturers are available to those using propane (otherwise known as liquid petroleum gas, LPG).
Heating with propane offers many of the advantages of natural gas. This is not just the range but also the huge experience of building home heating systems that the gas heating manufacturers boast.
Of course LPG, as the name suggests, is refined from petroleum. So is it subject to the same fluctuations in home heating oil prices? To some extent it is. However, unlike heating oil, about 50% of propane is manufactured from natural gas. That said, it will still suffer from seasonal demand peaks - this is inevitable with something that is so much more in demand in the winter than the summer.
