A lot of folk are increasingly looking at efficiency, health and safety when making new purchases from dishwashers to automobiles. It is no different when it comes to heating your home - this is why more and more of us are taking a serious look gas heating systems.
Both natural gas heating value and efficiency compare favorably with oil and electric sources. Unless you live in an area where a lot of electricity comes from the wind, the waves or the sun (and there are not many areas like that in the world!), then electricity will probably have been made by burning gas oil or even coal. It stands to reason therefore that it is a better idea to use the source directly.
Oil power usually requires big storage devices - gas on the other hand can be piped to your home or delivered in convenient liquid form - heating with propane can be a great option for many.
Residential gas heating usually works through radiant heat - underfloor or on efficient wall radiators or base radiators. Radiant heat is more effective than circulated air heat for several reasons: there are not the same infiltration and exfiltration losses, radiant heaters do not heat the top of the room as much (where we do not benefit from it) and there are less losses through the glass windows in our homes - heating engineers expect a 25-35% in heat load to result if a home switches from convective heat.
