There are some nice features in radiant ceiling heat that mean it is well worth considering for home owners who want to shift from their current forced air system.
The ceiling based system shares many of the positive benefits of any of any home radiant heat design. It is generally acknowledged that radiated heat is healthier than air systems (if you use the same ducts as your aircon system for your heating then this is the kind of system you have). For a start it does not move the air about which can well mean moving allergens about - forced air is usually worse for allergy sufferers.
There are water based systems where hot water is pumped around the house, but the advantage of any radiant electric heat system is that it does not need pipes installing - just cabling from an outlet, installed by an electrician.
What about commercial electric radiant heat that is installed in the ceiling? It seems counter intuitive that this can work well - after all we all know that hot air rises. But the heating profiles show that although the ceiling area is (inevitably) warmer than with wall radiators, the heat is more evenly distributed.
Another ceiling radiator advantage is that it is easy to install - easier perhaps than floor electric heating (depending on what floors you have).
