Electric radiant heat and its forms

The terminology around home heating can be confusing. The two main types are convection and radiant. Convection is about blowing around hot air, and it is the type of heating commonly found in countries (like the US) where the air conditioning ducts are also used for cold weather heating - it is usually electrically powered. Electric radiant heat on the other hand is about heating up objects and allowing the heat to radiate around the room.

A common way of employing electricity for this kind of heating is using a radiant heat floor. Some form of electrical elements can be set into the floor and heat the rooms from beneath. This form of heating has many supporters, and many people agree that it is a pleasant form of heat for humans (we all like having our feet kept warm).

The effect can easily be achieved using a carpet pad for electric heat. The quite efficient and advanced forms sit beneath the carpet and have safe heating elements running through the fabric.

There are other ways of using electricity - which after all is easily available to most homes. For example electric radiant heat panels are convenient, efficient and often very stylish.
