With the rise of heating prices and the growing realization that fossil fuels and electricity can be bad for the future of our planet, many are beginning to use an alternative heating system.
Of course alternative just means different from what you are used to using. So although some folk are looking to fit solar heating panels and other systems that have a very low environmental impact, many are just switching to a cheap to buy and cheap to run systems.
For example, many people are turning to home kerosene heaters. These can be vented or un vented, can be filled directly into their own tank or rigged up to a large outdoor tank. Particularly if you use an un vented heater, you need to make sure that the room is adequately ventilated from outside.
Another alternative is home wood fired boilers. There are some very good newer boiler that are more efficient than ever and can make a good job of home heating. They are also cheap to run. With all boiler systems it is important to keep them free from obstructions - there should always be adequate space around any heater.
Whatever alternative heating sources you choose to use you should take care to know the safety considerations and observe them closely.
