Most families feel the pinch of the ever-spiraling heating costs. Added to this we all know that fossil fuels are being used a lot faster than they are being made and that they will run out. It comes as no surprise that so many people are looking at alternative heating sources to keep their home and family warm in wintertime.
But what kind of alternative heating system is worth the bother of installation? What should we expect from it - do we have to sacrifice comfort for cost and environmentally friendly heating?
The good news is no we do not have to shiver in winter to save money and the planet - though most homes would probably benefit from being a few degrees cooler on the thermostat. While we are at it, every home that is not properly insulated is literally burning money, so maybe you ought to think about this low cost upgrade before worrying about the heating.
When it comes to alternative heating there are the standard choices that allow you to switch from one system to a more economical and efficient one. This could be installing a heat pump or switching over to hydro heat powered by gas or oil.
But many people are being drawn to the new high tech version of old classics. Wood heating systems for example are very environmentally friendly (the wood is renewable - just grow more trees) and good value. These new boilers are much more efficient than their ancestors, and many run on pellets (easy to load) or even on bio mass (vegetable waste turned to fuel pellets). These units are really worth a good look.
